Still trying to wrap my brain around 6th ed, I find writing lists helps a lot. Not saying pure TEQ makes for a good list necessarily, but I do really want to build this list.
Primary Detachment: Dark Angels
Belial, Master of the Deathwing
5 Death Wing Terminators, all Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields, Cyclone Missile Launcher
5 Death Wing Terminators, all Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields, Cyclone Missile Launcher
5 Death Wing Terminators, all Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields, Cyclone Missile Launcher

Secondary Detachment: Grey Knights
Ordo Whatever Inquisitor
10 Grey Knight Terminators, 2 Psycannons, 2 Nemesis Daemon Hammers, 8 Nemesis Force Halberds
10 Grey Knight Terminators, 2 Psycannons, 2 Nemesis Daemon Hammers, 8 Nemesis Force Halberds
Combat Squad the GKT, now you have 40 scoring TEQ in eight units. This list really shouldn't be able to shoot another army off the board, it needs to mop up in CC. But, 20 TH/SS Termies, soooo yeah.

Converted Rifle Dreads
So, I have been working on some dreads for my Grey Knights list and my first two are ready for the table top! They are not finished mind you, still some detail work and ammo drums to be done.
Do you want a tutorial for these? I still have three more to go, so if enough people are interested I will make one for you guys.

The Coolest Thing That Does Not Exist! But Soon!
Seriously, go check this out. Now. Stop reading and go follow the link!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/JoshuaACNewman/mobile-frame-zero-rapid-attack
The intro video is not the best. But, a table top war game played with models assembled out of lego? Hell yes. Cheap rules, all in one pdf/book? Yup. Model aesthetics that you get to choose based on the rules? Aaaaaaaaaw yeah! No more of that "I take unit X because it looks cool" nonsense.
Now, I am not saying you should just drop whatever you are playing and get on this game. But when the rules are between 0-10$, and an army will cost you ~12$... well you can play this alongside your other war games with ease.
I know you have lego somewhere, and I know you want an excuse to play with it again.

Did I mention it is mech based? It is mech based. |

A how to, by Jitsu: Plasticard Bases
Want custom bases for your whole army, but don't want to buy the sweet expensive ones online? Try this.
1) Trace the bases onto the non-textured side of the plasticard and cut them out very roughly from the main plasticard sheet.
2) Cut the card a bit more closely to the base outline, but not all the way.
3) Glue the plasticard on to the base.
4) Cut all the excess card off the base with your hobby knife. Go slowly, cut right up to the base and all the way around. It should all come off as one piece, but don't worry if it does not the first time.
5) You are done. Simple yeah?

A bit of Mathhammer
I was curious about the effectiveness of basic troops in 40k, these graphs compare the average number of kills a model will score against it's own point cost.
It should be noted that special/heavy weapons always have a way better kill/cost ratio. For example, If a squad of 5 marines takes a plasmagun, the squad will have a kill/cost of 0.051(this means that they kill 0.051 MEQ targets per point you spent to buy them, per shooting phase) against other MEQ(at 24"), but without the plasmagun, they have a kill/cost of 0.037(still at 24"). Most xenos armies can't really take special/heavy weapons (Dark Eldar being a notable exception.), just keep that in mind.
In this graph the firing units point cost is compared to a wide range of targets. |
This graph illustrates how good a unit is at killing marines, for its points cost, with no special/heavy weapons. |
